You've started (or restarted) your Weight Watchers journey and you're excited as can be because you know WW works and you're ready to lose the extra weight once and for all. Whether you're heading to a holiday dinner with the in-laws or you're hanging out with friends, you're bound to have to deal with someone who isn't as supportive as you'd like them to be.
Take a Deep Breath
The first thing I want you to do is take a deep breath, ok now take another one. You have a huge online support system and we are here to help you every step of the way. We have your back no matter what, lean on us and we will get you through. Having a support system is important to your success. But what about everyday life when You are out with friends and/or family and we are not there to help?
Eat Meals at Home
Eat at home. Have a meal before you go out and make sure it is loaded with protein to help you feel full longer. Eating a healthier meal at home will help you to easily say “I just ate” or you can order something small like a side dish and be content. Eating at home is two-fold, You will eat healthier and save money 🙂 I love saving money.
Eat Smaller Portions
Eat smaller portions. A trick I learned from the group is to ask for a to-go box when I order. I put half of the meal in the to-go box before I start eating. 2 meals for the price of one bonus. This helps me not to overeat and blow through my points when I am eating out.
Share a Meal With a Friend or Spouse
Share a meal. If you are going out with a significant other or a friend it doesn't matter offer to share a meal and split the tab. Other people like saving money too 🙂 Again smaller portions and lower cost. Another great benefit is you can eat a little of everything and feel satisfied, it also brings you closer to your significant other, physically, you tend to sit closer and share more intimate moments.
Friends and Family are not Always Going to Support You
Friends who don't support you I feel are not true friends, no matter what journey you are on surround yourself with people who will help you to achieve your goals. If you have someone in your life who does not support you, try not discussing your journey with that person. Omit them from the journey so that you can focus on becoming the person you want to be. If you cannot omit them from your life I know this isn't always an option, you can decide not to talk to them about your weight loss journey.
Walk the Walk You are Doing This For You!
It's your journey and your chosen path, sometimes you have to walk it alone. There will be struggles and there will be detractors, there will be people who want you to fail because they are afraid of succeeding. It is ok you go out there and show them what you are made of. You are a winner and you are doing this for you, not for anyone else but you. You got this and when you start losing weight and feeling better about you then they will have more negative stuff to say but in the end, it is your life and your body and you get the benefits of leading a healthier lifestyle.
Have a Support System
Get around people who are on the same journey. Find a support group. The wonderful thing about the myWW community is the support we can find everywhere we look. There are some amazing online communities as well as going to an in-person meeting. These are all in place to make sure you succeed in your journey. Whatever support you need you can find it online or at a meeting. You will make new friends and find answers to questions. I have enjoyed the journey so far and I am looking forward to another year of meeting great people like you and watching your journey unfold.
