Blackberry Lime Mojito
I was looking to try something different when I came across this drink in our hotel one night. We were staying at a hotel in California. “We could check out anytime we liked but we could never leave” lol:) Anyway, I wanted something different from my normal Crown Royal on the rocks. I was looking for something summery and refreshing. I asked the bartender for just that something light and refreshing, he made this wonderful blackberry lime mojito and I instantly fell in love, I had a new drink to try at home. When we got home from Cali. I immediately wanted to try and make it. If you haven't noticed I like my alcohol straight up so for me to like a mixed drink let alone want to try to make it and share is saying something. (Maybe I am just getting older and enjoying trying new tastes who knows)
Mojito Recipe; Simple Ingredients
To make the best Blackberry Lime Mojito it takes the very best ingredients. I start with fresh mint leaves and fresh-cut limes. I squeeze the limes to get the juice but you can use bottled lime juice if you prefer. You favorite light rum will always please your palate, My favorite is Capt. Morgan White Rum. To make it fizzy I use Perrier club soda. I make sure the blackberries are in season and I like to buy locally. I feel buying locally supports my neighbors and the fruit is fresher.
How to Make a Mojito
Shaken or stirred? What do you add first? To start, I slap my mint leaves before I put them in the glasses because, just tossing it in there won't do anything, so that's where your hands come in. Place the leaves or sprig in one hand and gently smack it with the other this warms up the mint slightly and starts to extract the oils before you use it to garnish your drink. Next, I muddle my blackberries, what is muddling? In this recipe, it basically means mashing them. By definition, muddling is mixing one ingredient into a drink to ensure all of the flavors are mixed well. Add light rum, lime juice I juice 3-5 limes to get 3/4 cup of lime juice once strained it is around 1/3 cup give or take. Now I add the sweetener “stir” until the drink is well-mixed, top with ice and club soda garnish with a lime wedge, some mint leaves and enjoy. For an eye-catching display add one or two blueberries on top of the ice. The blueberries add a nice color pop with the mint leaves and the lime wedge.
